2. Pricing — Free to Affordable
Looker Studio is completely free. You pay only for data source costs (e.g., BigQuery usage). No user limits. Power BI Desktop is free. The Pro license ($10/user/mo) adds collaboration, sharing, and data refresh scheduling. Metabase is free if you self-host (requires a server). Cloud-hosted starts at $85/mo for 5 users. Zoho Analytics starts at $24/mo for 2 users. Scales to $115/mo for 10 users. Tableau starts at $15/user/mo (viewer) and $75/user/mo (creator). Gets expensive fast for teams.
3. Head-to-Head
Data source connectivity: Looker Studio connects to 800+ data sources (Google Analytics, Google Ads, BigQuery, etc.). Power BI connects to 150+ but has deeper integration with Microsoft products. Metabase connects to 20+ (mostly SQL databases). Zoho connects to 100+ via built-in connectors and Zapier. Tableau connects to 100+ with the deepest transformation capabilities.
Ease of use: Zoho Analytics is the most user-friendly for non-technical users — it has an "ask AI" feature where you type questions in plain English. Looker Studio is intuitive if you're familiar with Google tools. Power BI has the steepest learning curve but the most powerful modeling capabilities. Metabase is the easiest for SQL-savvy users.
Sharing & collaboration: Looker Studio makes sharing as easy as sharing a Google Doc. Power BI requires Pro licenses for recipients. Zoho has granular role-based sharing. Metabase sharing is basic but functional.
